The Risk Management Group is an independent, centralised unit responsible for ensuring all risks across Macquarie are appropriately assessed and managed. Its divisions specialise in various risks including Operational, Credit, Prudential, Market and Compliance risks.

What role will you play?

In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior Business and Risk Management executives across the group to ensure robust operational risk practices. You will provide thought leadership and practical advice to businesses on operational risk management, as well as delivering education to enhance risk awareness. You will play a pivotal role in reviewing new business initiatives, identifying and managing key operational risks, and ensuring appropriate stakeholder engagement in the approval process. By developing a deep understanding of the business risk profile and key processes, you will act as a catalyst for change where necessary, ensuring risk and control self-assessments remain current and comprehensive.

Additionally, you will analyse incidents across the business to ensure swift resolution, capture lessons learned, and share insights to improve practices. You will also address existing and emerging operational issues through targeted projects or reviews, developing extreme loss event scenarios with input from business experts for Operational Risk Capital calculations, and respond to requests from stakeholders such as regulators, auditors, and senior Macquarie management.

  • A tertiary degree in Finance or a related field is essential, with postgraduate qualifications (CA, CPA, or equivalent) being highly desirable.
  • Over 4 years of experience in Risk Management, Operational Risk, or Internal/External Audit, preferably within an international financial institution or professional services firm.
  • Strong analytical and lateral thinking abilities, with expertise in problem-solving and consulting, as well as the capacity to navigate complex situations and balance commercial considerations within a risk framework.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory environment in which Macquarie operates is essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build trust, influence, and negotiate with management, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication abilities to engage confidently with business leaders.
  • Demonstrate tenacity, flexibility, and the ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced, outcome-driven environment, while working both independently and collaboratively within a team of specialists.
