Join our legal team within Macquarie’s Banking and Financial Services group.
This role supports the Business Banking division, playing a key role in ensuring that legal and regulatory risk is effectively managed in its lending business.

What role will you play?

The role involves advising on lending transactions for business borrowers across a number of industry segments. These transactions are typically documented on standardised internal documents, but you may also be required to work with external lawyers to prepare bespoke loan documentation for larger transactions.

You will be required to assist with transaction structuring, reviewing agreements, drafting advices and responding to queries from teams across the lending business including the sales, credit, marketing, documentation, product and collections teams. You will also be required to support initiatives to grow and scale the lending business, and to participate in regulatory compliance projects and the investigation and reporting of regulatory breaches.

What you offer

  • 3-4 years’ PQE within private practice or in-house legal team, with demonstrated experience in financing and security arrangements
  • Proven drafting skills, with the ability to make sound commercial decisions
  • Experience as an attentive risk manager with an ability to understand risks specific to various industry segments
  • Capability to manage competing priorities in an efficient and timely manner
  • Knowledge of the Banking Code of Practice, Design and Distribution Obligations, Corporations legislation, Personal Properties Securities Act and Consumer Data Right legislation would be advantageous but is not essential. Similarly, a knowledge of insolvency law and property law would be advantageous but is not essential.
