The Banking and Financial Services Credit Risk Team is responsible for managing and strengthening credit risk capability across a diverse portfolio of banking and financial services products. The team leads the design, implementation and oversight of credit risk policies and frameworks, ensuring lending practices remain aligned with strategic objectives and risk appetite. Leveraging portfolio reporting, data analytics and industry insights, the team delivers informed risk assessments and supports sound decision making across the lending lifecycle. 

Working closely with business banking, product, technology, operations and central risk management teams, the Credit Risk Team drives the ongoing enhancement of commercial lending policies, risk acceptance criteria and governance practices. The team's expertise helps balance growth opportunities with prudent risk management, ensuring robust controls are in place while supporting customers and the broader business through responsible lending decisions.

What role will you play?

You will lead a small team of credit risk professionals to evolve commercial lending credit risk policies, with in-depth consideration of risk, reward, customer and employee experience, and technology opportunities. You will bring a strong understanding of commercial lending credit risk and how it relates to the credit risk lifecycle, while owning, managing and updating the suite of risk appetite and credit risk policies that underpin our risk management framework. You will identify and investigate trends and insights from internal and external data to understand where credit policies can be optimised, and contribute to projects that support strategic initiatives across the credit risk lifecycle. 

You will develop a strong understanding of the management reporting produced within the Credit Risk team, including identifying opportunities to improve automation, managing data quality, and updating technical documentation and user guides. Working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including internal and external data teams and the centralised risk management group, you will help drive continuous improvement and effective risk management outcomes. You will also lead the team to ensure obligations and reporting standards are met, drawing on deep knowledge of Prudential Standards for ADIs under Risk Management, including APS220, ARS220, APS112, APS113, NCCP and BCOP. 

What you offer

  • Significant experience in a risk-based role, ideally within financial services. 
  • Experience in commercial lending credit underwriting and the credit risk lifecycle. 
  • Strong knowledge of credit risk policies, risk appetite frameworks and governance. 
  • Experience with credit risk systems and their application within policy frameworks. 
  • Proven people leadership experience within a risk, credit or banking environment. 
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and drive policy optimisation. 
  • Experience managing reporting, data quality, automation and process improvements. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with strong stakeholder management capabilities. 
  •  Ability to manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively and operate effectively independently. 
  • Sound knowledge of ADI Prudential Standards, including APS220, ARS220, APS112, APS113, NCCP and BCOP.
